Biological sampling of catches

The Agency undertakes an annual programme of sampling to measure fish and shellfish catches at markets, merchant's premises and other locations. This information is sent to CEFAS to assist work on fish stock assessments. Length samples are measured and ear stones (otoliths) are removed from some fish so that scientists can determine the age of the fish.
