Government policy on marine minerals dredging

It is government policy to ensure that there is an adequate and steady supply of minerals to provide the infrastructure, buildings and goods that society, industry and the economy needs but that this provision is made in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

In making decisions on all marine minerals dredging matters, the MFA, on behalf of the Secretary of State, will take into account the policy advice set out in Minerals Policy Statement 1: Planning and Minerals (MPS1) 2006 which sets out overall government policy for the supply of minerals to industry, etc and Marine Mineral Guidance 1: Extraction by Dredging From the English Seabed.
