Contingency planning
The Maritime and Coastaguard Agency (MCA) has produced detailed guidelines for ports on Contingency Planning for Marine Pollution Preparedness and Response, which incorporates a substantial contribution from the Marine and Fisheries Agency.
Dispersants, however, are not appropriate to treat every type of oil. DBERR has produced advice for the Offshore Oil & Gas Industry on the use of dispersants in response to spills.
The MFA has produced a Marine Pollution Contingency Plan which can be downloaded via the link on this page (see Further Information).
