Marine controls
Works which are proposed at sea or elsewhere in tidal waters, particularly where they would involve operations on the inter-tidal area or that span the high tide mark, may be subject to a range of statutory controls.
This is determined by the nature of the planned activity and its geographical location.
There are a number of regulatory bodies involved in regulating marine related activities. The Marine and Fisheries Agency regulates activities under:
- Food & Environment Protection Act 1985 Part II (Deposits in the Sea)
- Coast Protection Act 1949
- Telecommunications Act 1984
- Other Legislation - such as local harbours Acts (where the Secretary of State's approval is required for marine works)
