Port of Southampton - Environmental Statement
Applications to undertake Dredging, associated Disposal and Construction at the Port of Southampton
Associated British Ports (ABP) has applied to the Marine and Fisheries Agency (acting on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) for consents under the Coast Protection Act 1949 and the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 under three applications to undertake dredge and associated works.
1. The dredge of Port of Southampton approach channel within Southampton Water and the Solent, in order to to improve the access for vessels entering and leaving the port, and deposit this dredged material in Nab Disposal Grounds.
2. The dredge of Berths 201 and 202 within the Port of Southampton in order to improve the capacity of the berths for larger container ships, and deposit of this dredged material in Nab Disposal Ground.
3. The reconstruction of the quay wall at Berths 201 and 202.
All three projects are subject to Environmental Impact Assessment in accordance with Directive 85/337/EC (as amended) and ABP have supplied an Environmental Statement pursuant to the Marine Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2007.
