Last parts of MSC Napoli cut up

The last of the remains of the MSC Napoli are being removed, more than two years after the ship was deliberately grounded off the Devon coast.

The NapoliAfter several false starts a Dutch salvage team has started to lift and cut the stern section of the ship.

The Napoli was grounded off Branscombe in January 2007 after its hull was damaged in an English Channel storm.

Thousands of scavengers flocked to Devon when about 50 of the stricken ship's 2,400 containers washed ashore.

A temporary exclusion zone of 500m around the wreck remains while it is cut up.

All scrap will be taken to a recycling plant at Gravendeel in the Netherlands.
