Quota usage

Hague Preference (HP): distribution of UK gains for 2008

At the December 2007 Fisheries Council, the UK invoked HP in the North Sea for the first time in seven years and made gains on two quotas stocks above the quantity which might otherwise have been allocated to the UK in our opening quotas for 2008.

The full list of our HP gains for 2008 is:

  • North Sea whiting - 1,418 tonnes
  • North Sea haddock - 2,469 tonnes
  • West of Scotland cod - 30 tonnes (of which all 30t may be taken in VIa)
  • West of Scotland saithe - 1,214 tonnes
  • Area VIIb-k whiting - 31 tonnes

We are now writing to seek your views about the proposed distribution of quota gains for these stocks.
